What has been described as the largest on-site wind energy project for a US manufacturing company has won local planning approval, with construction expected to begin this month.

US community wind company Sustainable Energy Developments (SED) has completed its largest project to date, a 2 MW wind turbine to power the University of Delaware’s Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes, Delaware.

 The UK-based Solarcentury has formed a partnership with GE to provide financial services support for its ‘Solar4Schools’ programme, which has already installed solar electric systems in over 250 schools across the UK. 

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said 97 of the nation’s 104 operating commercial nuclear power plant units were performing in the two highest categories.

Analysis shows average wind speeds over parts of the UK during the past year have been at or close to historical lows. Conversely, a number of factors in the U.S. caused noticeably intensified domestic wind speeds across much of the Western U.S. compared to the first quarter of 2010.

Spanish company Iberdrola Engineering & Construction has secured a contract for two electricity power lines, each 220 km of length in the western Mexican state of Jalisco, as well as two substations associated with the 750 MW La Yesca hydroelectric plant.

The Chilean minister of Energy, Ricardo Raineri has been quoted as saying by El Mercurio that his government's energy policy will seek to secure around 20 per cent of the country’s power production from renewable energy sources by 2020.
